Look Lane

Look Lane is an online marketplace where designer-makers can sell quality hand-made products in a setting as unique as they are.


Rob and Debbie (co-owners of Look Lane) came to us buzzing with the massive potential of their business and needing a new website to maximise and drive sales growth whilst building high-value brand equity and traction in the UK marketplace.

As a designer himself, Rob had created beautiful designs for the site which conveyed a fresh modern look, with a big-brand feel, ensuring maximum user engagement and offering intuitive navigation. Our mission was to develop a slick and robust technical backend to harness the cleverness of the Look Lane concept.

To this end we developed a ground-up WordPress based eCommerce solution which incorporates an innovative shop-editor, allowing vendors to quickly and easily create and build both the internal and external view of their shops. This incorporates a library of fun visual elements allowing maximum creativity by selecting background styles, colours, doors, window styles, and accessories (including dogs, cats, T-rex and potted plants)!!!

Visitors to the site can either search or browse by product type or vendor name, or can view the shops visually to emulate the idea of physically mooching down a street of shops and choosing based on the look of a shop as much as the things it sells. If interested they can then ‘enter’ a shop and browse the products (and hopefully buy!).

In addition to the clever shop-editor the site had to function as a full-blown eCommerce solution whilst giving total flexibility and control to the client over vendor membership packages and commission rates.

HR Dept.

The HR Dept provides SMEs across the UK and Ireland with personalised and highly professional HR services through a local network of Licensees.


The HR Dept came to us needing to creatively and technically update and rethink their website with the aim of giving their brand a much more contemporary and professional feel, and crucially to give their nationwide network of Licensees much greater flexibility and control over their individual micro-sites. Ultimately the new approach should result in an overall increase in high-value lead generation from their website.

A key feature on the new site would be sophisticated Licensee micro-sites that would allow each Licensee to configure and personalise their sites to a much greater degree. This would include the ability to add video content, customer testimonials, create ‘meet the team’ pages and post local events. The new site should also include a Licensee search tool allowing full postcode look-up of all nearby offices.

Having carefully scoped the technical and creative challenges we set about testing and refining the optimum approach to the UX (user experience) for the sites. We built a cloud-based interactive prototype which allowed us to test, iterate and share with the client easily and quickly. The real benefit of this was in eliminating any friction points in the user journey and navigational flow at the earliest possible stage. It also allowed us to define the detail for all page layouts and explore optimum positioning of key site components.

Once prototyping was completed we were able to move quickly into the main UI design phase of the project. Our focus here was in elevating the online brand language and giving it a much more modern and engaging feel. Having created and refined a series of high-fidelity creative visuals we then moved to building the final page layouts and WordPress theme. We had established early on that the new site should be built as a bespoke WordPress theme, rather than the Drupal platform used on the old site. This not only reduced costs for our client but enabled us to leverage the ease and speed of technical development that WordPress allows.

Tulikivi UK

Tulikivi UK is the sole distributor exclusively marketing and selling innovative Finnish heat-retaining fireplaces in the United Kingdom from the world’s largest manufacturer.


The Tulikivi name is largely unheard of in the UK, although extremely popular in Finland. The products are genuinely amazing and sit at the premium end of the market, however the lack of strong brand awareness amongst a UK target audience was considered to be hampering sales and growth. Tulikivi UK came to us needing a total website redesign and content restructuring.

The existing website lacked visual punch, structural definition, and clear messaging. The new site would need to appeal to high net-worth individuals, developers and interior designers – those likely to have the requisite budget and an appreciation of the necessary processes to get a premium feature product installed as the focal point in a home.

This required a completely new and fresh visual approach, giving a big-brand feel, and ensuring maximum user engagement and brand attachment. The focus for us therefore was to underpin the design with a real sense of both the uniqueness of the product, the innovative technology at its heart, and the emotive ‘warm glow’ that a Tulikivi would bring to any home.

The new site we created for Tulikivi UK was a bespoke and fully responsive WordPress solution combining beautiful photography, detailed product information, demo videos and owner galleries. The site also works as a slick and effective sales tool, allowing users to effortlessly explore and navigate over 100 products in the Tulikivi range. For this we designed a bespoke product browser that combines simple feature filtering with an intuitive carousel viewer incorporating information overlays.

Olivehorse is a dynamic, rapidly growing SAP consultancy, specialising in Supply Chain Management. In the UK they have an unparalleled level and depth of industry experience and expertise throughout their team of senior consultants. The brief from Olivehorse was to evolve, enhance and elevate their brand to better reflect their status as SAP industry heavyweights. This encompassed a full brand review, including a one-day workshop, to fully understand the current positioning, assess existing levels of equity and to create a clear roadmap for developing a new visual identity. From this a suite of top-level primary marketing messages was created to distill and define the Olivehorse story. We then evolved and crafted a striking new visual identity, together with a bespoke, responsive, WordPress website to bring the new brand fully to life and form the primary means of communicating with the marketplace. All website content was rewritten by our copywriter Rupert to inject the correct tone of voice and a full set of brand guidelines was developed to ensure consistency of application going forward.

James Pyle & Co.

James Pyle & Co. is a successful, growing estate agency based in the Cotswolds and dealing with all aspects of residential sales and lettings. They approached 4 Digital needing a full refresh of their existing website with the focus being on creating a much cleaner, more effective and more user-friendly design. This entailed both visually evolving the James Pyle brand to convey their brand ‘voice’ more clearly and also creating responsive layouts that put their impressive property photography centre stage on every device.


As well as the visual aspect of the project the other key requirement was to integrate the new website with Jupix – integrated software that enables content on Rightmove and other property websites to be fed directly and seamlessly into the listings automatically. Our solution was to create a bespoke, fully-responsive WordPress site for James Pyle that took their online presence up a whole level, elevated their brand messaging and created much greater user engagement throughout. The Thought Business

The Thought Business offers life and business coaching with a very different approach. Martin Croft, the man behind The Thought Business, came to 4 Digital needing a website for the first time to communicate that difference and engage with people needing to try something new. His brief to us was both very simple and very challenging – ‘I want a website that is unique!’ Game on.


From this basic premise we designed and implemented a website that genuinely creates engagement and impact on the part of the visitor from the moment it loads, with a unique split-scrolling effect. With sharp, clever creative copy and powerful imagery, the website has generated numerous positive comments from “the best website I’ve seen” to “it’s amazing”. These days it’s harder than ever to create uniqueness online, but we worked closely with Martin to fully convey his unique proposition in both the creative and technical execution.
